Euro 2024 Group F Highlights
Türkiye vs. Georgia 3-1
Türkiye was lethal in attack as expected and their long range shots were impressive; no need for intricate play there, althought their possession play was good. Georgia tried their best.
Portugal vs. Czechia 2-1
Portugal was strong but it was tricky to penetrate through Czechia's defence. Luck was not on Portugal's side either. However, opportunities come with persistance. All the goals happened late in the second half. Czechia scored first during their counter-attack with a long range try. Portugal, however, didn't give up and luck finally sided with them as the header went in by chance from an own goal. In stoppage time, the rookie substitute capitalized on a close proximate opportunity to seal the win for Portugal.
Georgia vs. Czechia 1-1
Hand ball was the story of the first half. Czechia scored first but the VAR detected the ball touching the striker's arm so no goal was given. On the other hand, Georgia was rewarded a penalty kick due to a hand ball from a Czechia player, to which it was converted to a goal. In the second, Czechia continued to dominate in possession. Czechia kept on knocking on the door and eventually equalized from a corner kick. Georgia had one big chance at the last second but missed so there was no victor in the end.
Türkiye vs. Portugal 0-3
Portugal tried to keep the ball as much as possible while Türkiye was more of a direct style in attack. Portugal made more opportunities so they led with the first goal. Portugal's second goal resulted from a gift of an own goal when the Türkiye defender made a bad back-pass to the keeper that went straight to the net instead of the keeper's hands. Portugal's third goal came in the second half as the Türkiye's defence line at the back was fully open and it was two strikers versus one goalie.
Georgia vs. Portugal 2-0
It was Georgia who scored first early on in 2 minutes from the start due to a bad back pass from a Portugal defender to which it was intercepted. Portugal tried to maintain composure and pass play as they mostly had the ball but the final move was full of misses. To make matters worse for Portugal, a penalty kick was conceded early in second half. Georgia gained more confidence and Portugal's defence was shaky. This was the worst Portugal performance by far. They need to be more focused next time and not be too laxed about their attack.
Czechia vs. Türkiye 1-2
Türkiye dominated possession but they had difficulty scoring. In the beginning of second half, Türkiye kept at the offence and eventually scored. In the 68th minute, Czechia's goal shouldn't have counted since a Czechia player obstructed the keeper but the referee allowed it despite looking at the VAR. I thought that was an unfair call. After equalizing, Czechia became more vicious in attack. The match ended dramatically in the final 3 minutes of stoppage time where Türkiye miraculously scored.
