Spain is a finalist contender; possibly the best performance out of all the group stage matches so far. Croatia couldn't show their strengths due to Spain's organization and dominance.
Italy vs. Albania 2-1
Italy was quick in attack with the one-touch connections and the goals were spectacular, but their weakness lied in their defence. Albania took advantage of the fortune gifted by Italy's defence and got on the scoresheet first.
Croatia vs. Albania 2-2
Albania surprisingly scored first with a nice long pass to the front and a header connection. Croatia had lost to Spain and needed a win so they were hungry to equalize. Albania did not let Croatia have space and capitalized when given a chance in counter-attack. Modric's condition was lackluster as he made some pass misses. Nevertheless, Croatia's persistance paid off as they equalized after 70 minutes. Another goal followed a few minutes after. When Croatia led, Albania became more fierce in attack and their efforts were rewarded with an equalizer in stoppage time. The match was gritting to the finish.
Spain vs. Italy 1-0
Spain looked threatening from the get go. The game was exciting with fast pace advances from Spain and Italy's counter efforts. Despite Spain's dominance, Italy's defence held up and survived the first half. Spain's finish was frustratingly not connecting as they thought too much when near goal but they kept making chances and ultimately succeeded in scoring from an own goal by Italy in the second half. Spanish player Marc Cucurella's defensive performance was the star of the show.
Albania vs. Spain 0-1
Spain had the ball majority of the time but there was something missing about the finish. Regardless, they scored early on with a long range effort. Albania looked hungry and threatening for goal in the latter part of the second half but to no avail.
Croatia vs. Italy 1-1
Croatia dominated in possession. It was a stalemate until Croatia was gifted a penalty kick from an accidental hand ball. Modric unfortunately missed the penalty, but he shortly after made up with a goal. Italy took more possession thereafter to equalize. In the last 30 seconds of stoppage time, Italy's counter efforts finally paid off as they successfully equalized.
